Sayreville is a borough in Middlesex County of new Jersey. Town is located on the banks of river Raritan in eastern New Jersey. It is believed town was settled in 1775 near Ritarian Bay and up until 1870, Sayreville is been an important river port.
Sayreville was originally known as roundabout for its river bends and then as Woods landing. It was renamed in 1870s for James R. Sayre, Jr. James who was the owner of a renowned brick company established in Sayreville.
Sayreville has extensive clay deposits which supported the brick industry enormously from 1800 until 1970.Although borough has always been known as an industrial town, addition of residential towns and new industrial set ups has changed the landscape.
