The American band from Minnesota, Trampled by Turtles is bringing its indie folk, alternative country and bluegrass music to your town. The present members of the band comprise Dave Simonett, Tim Saxhaug, Dave Carroll, Erik Berry and Ryan Young. The band members gathered their inspirations from artists such as Nirvana, Bob Dylan, Townes Van Zandt, Ralph Stanley, The Rolling Stones and Neil Young. Front man Dave Simonett formed the band initially in 2003 as a side project. Due to an unfortunate incident, Dave lost all his music equipment to a group of car thieves. He was Left with no equipment and instruments besides his acoustic guitar. Starting from scratch, Dave started to put together a new band drawing inspiration from folk, bluegrass and similar genres that did not depend on amplification. Dave did not have any prior experience in bluegrass music. He started recruiting newcomers including fiddler Ryan Young, bassist Tim Saxhaug, mandolin player Erik Berry and banjo player Dave Carroll. Together they started to experiment with music to try out new things.

The band's first album was released in 2004 under the title Songs from a Ghost Town. It featured songs steeped in tradition along with a contemporary sound that made the album stand out. This release aided the band in bridging the gap between their rock music background and their new acoustic leanings.

The succeeding albums Blue Sky and the Devil and Trouble released in 2005 and 2007 respectively explored a similar sound. With the release of their fourth album Duluth in 2008, the band earned the full support of the bluegrass community. The album ranked at number eight on the 'Billboard Bluegrass Chart'. Their fifth album Palomino came out to an even better response. It stayed amongst the Top 10 on the 'Billboard Bluegrass Charts' for fifty-two weeks. Following the footsteps of the preceding album, their sixth album Stars and Satellites ranked at number eleven in the 'Alternative Chart' and at number thirty-two on the 'Billboard 200 Chart'.

The band's music has been featured in various television series as well. These include  'Squidbillies' and 'Deadliest Catch'. The movie The Way, Way Back released in 2013 featured their song "Alone". They band made its national television debut on the Late Show with David Letterman in 2012.

The band has performed at several national festivals such as 'Pickathon', 'Stagecoach', 'Bumbershoot', 'Hardly Strictly Bluegrass' and 'Coachella'.. In 2011, they played at numerous large folk festivals including 'ROMP: Bluegrass Roots and Branches', 'Telluride Bluegrass Festival' and 'Newport Folk Festival'.
