Pierce The Veil
A progressive post-hardcore band from San Diego, California, Pierce the Veil was formed in the fall of 1998 under the name Before Today. It is one of the few bands that can combine different types of music and have cited all types of music as their influences bleed through in their music, showing more depth and range outside the punk genre.
The two brothers, vocalist/guitarist Victor Fuentes and drummer Mike Fuentes first started playing together at their ripe ages. They played music while students in high school. In 1998, the brothers formed the group called Before Today. The band soon turned into a quintet by guitarist Joe Tancil and bassist Mitchell Ballatore.
Having undergone through significant changes, Pierce The Veils unusual song structures provide contrasting beautiful vocals to mingle and form each and every memorable hook and the foundation for complex guitar lines. Pierce the Veil, as Before Today, played as a unit for several years.
They had their first breakthrough in 2004 when were signed by Equal Vision Records. What really broke the doors down for Pierce the Veil was their debut album entitled A Celebration of an Ending. The album is mixed in the new-school screaming trend, Thursday-ish post-hardcore, odd tempo changes and incomplete efforts of experimentation.
Culling its main influence from straight-forward 90s skate punk, Pierce The Veils music is competent in pulling off moderately abrupt changeups in tempo, mood, and pacing. The effective use of these changeups give the bands music a slightly different expression from any post-2002 punk with screams band. With Celebration of an Ending, Pierce The Veil inject their own flavor to what is rapidly becoming a formulaic genre, melodic hardcore punk. But again, for those who try to shield their ears from mainstream music, Pierce The Veils album might be just what music-lovers have been looking for.
Although Pierce the Veil label themselves as emo, hardcore punk band but after listening to the music in their debut album A Celebration of an Ending, one may not be able to categorize them into any one category. The majority of the album contains loud, fast music but also are there some songs showing that the band members can change their music up.
Some of the songs following different styles include Shallow Pockets and Well of Tradition. Fitting into multiple genres makes A Celebration of an Ending appealing for all types of music lovers. The album is unique, complex and loud.
Pierce the Veils debut album features not only good guitar riffs but also good lyrics to listen to. All songs contain positive messages, a far cry from the angst-filled lyrics which usually accompany hardcore music. The band that started off its music with a mid-paced drum roll, Pierce the Veil had subsequent declarations over a bouncing chord progression in their first album through Equal Vision Records.
The album was released to critical acclaim and the band enjoyed the success to this point as Before Today. In 2006, avoiding copyrights issues, brothers Vic and Mike Fuentes, changed the band name to Pierce The Veil.
After the release of A Celebrtion of An Ending, Joe Tancil (guitar) and Mitchell Ballatore (bass) departed. The lineup for Pierce the Veils forthcoming album enlisted Vic Fuentes on vocals and guitars, Mike Fuentes on drums, Jaime Preciado on bass, and Tony Perry on guitar. The brothers began recording their second album in their San Diego home studio, and later recorded it up in Seattle with producer Casey Bates.
On June 26, 2007, the groups second album entitled A Flair For The Dramatic appeared on the same label. The album contains some genuinely catchy moments such as Chemical Kids and Mechanical Brides. Aside from the cheesy names, some pretty unique harmonies and vocal acrobatics are also displayed.
In A Flair for the Dramatic, the singing lends itself equally well to both soft acoustic ballads and heavier progressive anthems. Music-lovers will recognize the surprise depth of majority of the song structures as they dig a little deeper. Pierce the Veil have featured a lot different types of music ranging from dancy hardcore romps to acoustic laden ballads.
The bands second record is a pop-punk influenced album containing songs that actually distinguish Pierce the Veil individually. While releasing albums, Pierce the Veil have toured with several bands around the world. They began their first headlining tour, called The Delicious Tour in October with Breathe Carolina, Four Letter Lie and Emarosa.
Pierce the Veils have been noted for their extremely energetic live performances. Their music has range and depth while their singing has undoubtedly earned them a satisfied audience.
Pierce the Veil is indeed a precious talent of the music world. Listen to the potential music of Pierce the Veil that will surely run you over and make you rock.
