Commonly abbreviated as "MCR", My Chemical Romance is an alternative pop/rock and punk-pop band based in New Jersey, USA. Its current lineup consists of Gerard Way, Mikey Way, Frank Iero, Ray Toro and Bob Bryar. My Chemical Romance was nominated for "Best Alternative Group" at the 2007 American Music Awards, along with Linkin Park and The White Stripes.

The band got started in suburban New Jersey in the early 2000s when lead singer Gerard Way and Matt Pelissier (former drummer 2001-2004) decided to try writing some songs together. The first tune that Way and Pelissier -- who had been friends since high school -- came up with was called "Skylines and Turnstiles" (a post-9/11 song). Soon guitarist Ray Toro also joined them. The trio then joined forces with bassist Mikey Way (Gerard's little brother) and guitarist Frank Iero. With that 5-man lineup in place, the band started playing all around the Northeast Corridor and started getting attention due to their music that combined punk-pop's musical aggression with introspective, confessional lyrics.

Produced by Geoff Rickly (the vocalist of the music band, Thursday), their first album, ?I Brought You My Bullets, You Brought Me Your Love' was released on Eyeball Records in 2002, quickly making them an underground success. In addition to being influenced by ?Thursday', reviewers have cited the Smiths, Morrissey, the Cure, and the Misfits as influences, while the older Way has even cited British heavy metal icons Iron Maiden. My Chemical Romance's 2004 major label album, ?Three Cheers For Sweet Revenge', earned even higher commercial success. The album boasted several successful singles on commercial radio and MTV, including "I'm Not Okay (I Promise)," "Helena," and "The Ghost of You," as the album climbed the Billboard charts. In the wake of all this, the band became one of the biggest bands on the modern rock scene, going platinum in the U.S. and selling over two million copies worldwide. In mid-2004, Pelissier left the band and was soon replaced on drums by Bob Bryar whom they had previously met while touring with the Used.

Extensive touring continued to increase their fan following. My Chemical Romance toured with bands such as Green Day, Taking Back Sunday, and many others, and also played the 2004 and 2005 Vans Warped Tours, headlining the latter. Their tours and concerts are now known for sold-out shows. Following the 2005's summer Warped Tour, the band then opened their first headlining tour ? supporting were Alkaline Trio, and Reggie & The Full Effect. The band really took advantage of headlining a tour, as they incorporated major theatrics in their concerts. As they were also very influenced by horror films and comic books while growing up, and therefore their music, lyrics, and image all have overt elements of fantasy, storytelling, horror, and theatricality.

Meanwhile preparing to enter the studio for their third album, My Chemical Romance released ?Life on the Murder Scene' in March 2006. The CD and double-DVD package extensively documented practically everything MCR, including demos, music videos, live footage, interviews, and more. Various live performances were also recorded for the CD and double DVD package.

Later in 2006, My Chemical Romance released its third album, ?The Black Parade', featuring their hit singles, "Welcome to the Black Parade", "Famous Last Words", "I Don't Love You" and "Teenagers". In order to promote this album, the band embarked on a world-concert tour, The Black Parade World Tour that same year stretching into 2007. While the first two albums were loose concepts lyrically, The Black Parade is a breathtaking, fully-formed epic. It is about facing your fears but at the same time filled with hope and promise. The first single, ?Welcome To The Black Parade', begins with a haunting piano line, which then evolves through marching drums and dramatic guitars bends before bursting into a blistering verse and a triumphant chorus. Other songs are equally dynamic: ?House Of Wolves' combines blues, rockabilly and punk ethos, while ?Mama' exudes romping blends of vaudevillian rhythm.

Starting on July 25th and ending on September 3rd in Colorado, the band joined headliners Linkin Park on Projekt Revolution 2007. The tour was reported to have a stream of controversial events including the infamous kiss in San Bernardino that Gerard Way and Frank Iero shared during a performance of ?You Know What They Do to Guys like Us in Prison'.
