The band was established in 1981 and comprises of lead vocalist Boy George, bass guitarist Mikey Craig, guitarist and keyboardist Roy Hay and percussionist Jon Moss. Selling more than ten million copies, their second album, "Colour by Numbers" gained widespread success. On its release, the album earned quadruple platinum in the United States and triple platinum in the United Kingdom. Rolling Stone magazine listed it amongst the 100 Best Albums of the 1980s, ranking at number ninety six. It also became part of the book "1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die."
The band gained prominence via numerous international hit numbers such as Church of the Poison Mind, Do You Really Want to Hurt Me, Victims, The War Song, I'll Tumble 4 Ya, Time (Clock of the Heart) and more. The single Time (Clock of the Heart) made it to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame list of "500 songs that shaped rock and roll." Culture club is one of the most influential bands of the 80s. The band won the Brit Award for the category "Best British Group" in 1984. They won the Grammy Award for the category "Best British Single" for the track Karma Chameleon and also for the category of "Best New Artist." The group of four was also nominated for the Canadian Juno Award for the category "International Album of the Year."
