When he was thirteen years old, Damian formed a music band called, Shephards. The group broke up in the early 90s and Damian began started performing as a solo artist.
Damian Marley released his debut album called Mr. Marley in 1996. The record was co-produced by Stephen Marley. His second record, Halfway Tree came out in 2001. Stephen produced three of Damian's albums including "Welcome to Jamrock". Stephen also performed on a number of Damian's singles such as "All Night," "For the Babies", "Hey Girl" and "Pimpa's Paradise". Damian Marley rose to fame with this album and it remained on the Billboard top reggae albums chart completing 158 weeks as well as won a Grammy Award in 2001 for Best Reggae Album. In 2003, Damian and Stephen Marley put together a record named Educated Fools in collaboration with several other reggae artists such as Ky-Mani Marley.
 
Stephen Marley kicked off numerous tours and most notably with Slightly Stoopid and Snoop Lion during 2009. In 2010, Stephen came up with a song, "Jah Army", with Damian. Every year in February, Marley along with his brothers performs at the Caribbean Festival in Miami as a tribute to Bob Marley, their father.
