With this number they actually experienced a new beginning and it became the perfect guide for the other releases to follow. Their 1997 release I Can Hear the Heart Beating as One was a supreme amalgamation of punk rock and folk. Their ninth LP release was And Nothing Turned itself Inside Out received a warm welcome from the listeners. The album has different tones and hues from other albums and also comprised the classic Night Fall on Hoboken.

The 2000s saw YLT releasing an instrumental for The Sounds of the Sounds of Science a program of eight documentaries that premiered at the San Francisco Film Festival. Since then this program has been performed live for about twelve times. The band also released their tenth album Summer Sun in 2003 and released Wig In a Box, a collaboration work with Yoko Ono in the same yo.ear. Their following releases like Yo La Tengo is murdering the Classics was universally acclaimed as well. Their albums have developed and grown beautifully over time and have contributed a different style of music in the music scene.

Over the past few years, the band has released a tribute album for Chris Knox, a New Zealand rock and roll musician.
