The folk rock sound of The Mother Hips band simply does magic to the ears which makes up for an amazing alternative rock experience. The band sets the stage on fire with its supersonic energy and terrific performance. People who have attended their concert many times before are returning to book their share of The Mother Hips tickets. And this is of course because the band never fails to delight its fans.
Formed in 1990, The Mother Hips is an indie and alternative rock band that belongs to the San Francisco Bay Area. Formerly, the band comprised of Tim Bluhm, Daniel Eisenberg, Paul Hoaglin, Greg Loiacono, Isaac Parsons and Mike Wofchuck. While attending the California State University, the boys used to perform at small parties, however, shortly afterwards, Isaac and Mike were attracted by the idea of playing the cover songs of two rock bands, Jane's Addiction and Led Zeppelin at big parties. In the meantime, Tim and Greg performed to whoever would listen to them and also provided backup vocals to the singer, Ali Weiss.
In early 1991, Tim, Greg, Isaac and Mike considered forming a rock band, hence began to play original songs instead of covers. With the help of a mutual friend, Paul Hoaglin, the band released its first studio album, Back to the Grotto through the American Recordings in February 1993. In August 1995, the band released its second studio album, Part-Timer Goes Full which is a great mix of new and back catalog songs. The album contains fourteen singles such as Shut the Door, Stoned up the Road, Afternoon after Afternoon, Sunshine Feel and the list goes on. The American Recordings released Shut the Door as the opening single of the album. According to the fans, the single did not represent the band's sound and did not climb the charts but the band gathered a sizeable fan base.
In the late nineties, the band began to indulge into country-style songwriting; however, it did not blend well with Mike Wofchuck's style, hence he got replaced with John Hofer. In 1996, the band released its third studio album, Shootout on the American Recordings. Since the record label could not successfully promote the album, the band broke its contract with the American Recordings. Green Hills of Earth is the band's fifth studio album whose title is taken from a short story by Robert A. Heinlein. Released in 2001, the album contains some crowd pleasing singles such as Given for You, Life In the City, Pull Us All Together, Emotional Gold and Protein Sky among others.
In March 2002, Isaac Parsons left the band to spend time with his son and Paul Hoaglin came in to take his place. In 2007, the band released its sixth alternative rock album, Kiss the Crystal Flake whose singles Time-Sick Son of a Grizzly Bear and Time We Had have been featured in the video game titled Rock Band. Moreover, the songs, Third Floor Story and White Falcon Fuzz of the album, Pacific Dust have also appeared in the video game.
In 2011, the multi-instrumentalist and bassist, Paul Hoaglin also left the band while creating a place for Scott Thunes. Currently, the band is made up of four bright musicians including Tim Bluhm, Greg Loiacono, John Hofer and Scott Thunes. In July2013, they released the band's eighth studio album, Behind Beyond through their own record label. The Mother Hips, Tim Bluhm and Greg Loiacono have collectively written and composed all the songs of the album. Some of the fan-favorite singles include The Isle Not of Man, Freed from a Prison, Best Friend in Town and Shape the Bell among others. You might have listened to the band's songs on CDs but believe it or not, it is much better live than on the studio, so pick your share of The Mother Hips tickets to enjoy this spellbinding extravaganza.
