Mavis Staples is a famed R&B and a gospel musician, a civil rights activist and an actress from Philadelphia in Pennsylvania. Staples began her career by recording in collaboration with her family band known as The Staple Singers. In 1950, Staples started her music journey as a singer in her family band. At first she used to sing in local churches and appeared on a weekly radio program however. The Staples Singers released a song titled as "Uncloudy Day" in 1956 that turned into a major hit single. The song had been released on the Vee-Jay recording label. In 1957, she successfully graduated from the Paul Robeson High School, after which her family band took on the road to tour. With many hit songs, the band was soon known as "God's Greatest Hitmakers". Soon enough, the band rose to great heights with Mavis' amazing vocals and unique guitar playing by her band members. From being simple gospel musicians, the band became one of the most talked-about and sought after music groups that had an immense amount of influence of many other groups. During the mid-1960s, the Staples were seen forming a close bond with Martin Luther King, Jr. and eventually began singing for the civil rights movement. At that time the band fruitfully released various pop oriented hit singles which included a lot of positive messages such as "For What It's Worth" a fresh version of Stephen Stills song and "A Hard Rains a-Gonna Fall" of Bob Dylan's.
Mavis Staples embarked upon her solo career in the late 1960s when she was recording a song called "Crying in the Chapel" with her band in contract with Epic Records. On 1994, this single was released on an album called Lost Soul by Sony Music Records. In 1969, Staples released a complete solo album that was self-titled on the known Stax Records. In 1970, she released Only for the Lonely. On the Curtom label belonging to Curtis Mayfield, Staples' soundtrack album known as A Piece of the Action came out. In 1984, another self-titled album was seen preceding two more albums which were recorded under the guidance of the rock star named Prince. In 1989, her album Time Waits for No One came out and was followed by The Voice that was seen in 1993. The esteemed People magazine gave The Voice a ranking amongst the Top Ten Albums of the Year in 1993.  Spirituals & Gospels: A Tribute to Mahalia Jackson was recorded in 1996 along with Lucky Peterson a famous keyboard player. This album of Staples, honors Mahalia Jackson who happened to be a family friend of Staples and also one of those people who had a huge impact on her life.
Staples was seen making a massive national come back in the industry when her album Have a Little Faith came out on Alligator Records of Chicago. In 2004, Jim Tullio produced the album. This album of hers featured a lot of spiritual music genre that was coupled with semi-acoustic beats and was warmly received by her fans and critics alike.
