By the age of seven, he started playing the guitar with earnest, after meeting Stevie Ray Vaughan in a 1984 concert promoted by his father.
Shepherd used his father's music collection to learn the intricacies of guitar playing. In 1990 he officially kicked off his music career and debuted as a professional musician and singer.
From 1995 onwards, Kenny Wayne Shepherd went on to release seven Top 10 hits on various charts. His album, Trouble Is, holds the record for being the Billboard Blues Chart's Longest Running Album.

During this tour, Shepherd played with the likes of Bryan Lee, Clarence Gatemouth Brown, Buddy Flett, Jerry McCain, B. B. King, Neal Pattman, Cootie Stark, Henry Townsend and Honey Boy.
In 2008, Fender released a Shepherd signature guitar, called the Kenny Wayne Shepherd Signature Series Stratocaster, which was designed specifically for the Louisiana blues musician.
Aside from his famous 2007 tour in which he met some of the most legendary musicians in blues, Shepherd has also gone on a number of highly successful tours and shows.
