Kacey grew up in a small town, Golden in Texas in a home that was artistic but didn't have any music background. Perhaps the creativity that Kacey has comes from her mother as she is a visual artist. Kacey was exposed to music during her childhood when she began singing at a local church. She used her God-gifted art of songwriting at nine when she wrote one of very first songs "Notice Me". She started to learn mandolin and guitar as she entered her adolescence years. Singing regularly on the locally held events and shows, she became popular among the local music circles.

Kacey self-released her first album "Movin' On" under an independent record label in 2002 that featured her self-written songs. Later in 2003, she released another album "Wanted: A Good Cowboy" with her personal efforts and support of her family. She moved to the Austin as she finished high school and there she participated in the popular singing reality show "Nashville Star" in 2007. The show enhanced her exposure to the industry and musicians. It also helped improve her understanding about music. Within that period, Kacey launched her third self-titled album and began recording demos for popular songs by other country artists. Kacey contributed her songwriting skills to the country legend Marinda Lambert's 2011 hit single "Mama's Broken Heart".

During her struggle for a professional music career, she met the music producers and songwriters Shane McAnally and Luke Laird. Soon she was signed to the Mercury Records in 2012 and then she began working on her solo debut single. "Merry Go 'Round" came out in 2012 and quickly climbed the charts, peaking at fourteenth on US Country and tenth on Country Airplay charts.

This rapid success made Kacey known to thousands of country listeners and it wasn't long when she started touring various destinations around the country. She became the opening act for many of the renowned country artists such as Willie Nelson. Kacey also joined the famous country-pop music group Lady Antebellum during their "Own the Night" tour in UK.

While working for his coming full-length studio album, she was accompanied by many other talented songwriters like Brandy Clark and Josh Osborne, and with them, Kacey co-wrote all of the songs of her next album.
