Academy and Grammy Award winning singer and songwriter, Carly Simon was born on June 25, 1945 and was named Carly Elisabeth Simon. Simon?s was a daughter to the co-founder of Simon & Schuster, Inc, Richard L. Simon who was also a pianist.
Her mother, Andrea Louise Simon was also a singer apart from being a Jewish civil rights activist. Simon was brought up in Bronx, New York City and graduated from Riverdale Country School.
Then for higher studies she took admission in Sarah Lawrence College, but after a brief amount of time she dropped out to pursue her aspiration of being a musician.
Carly Simon has two elder sisters Joanna and Lucy and a younger brother named Peter Simon. She made her debut in the music industry after she formed a duo with her elder sister Lucy, called the Simon Sisters.
Together with her sister Lucy, Simon released a total of 3 albums, with the most notable hit single being ?Winkin, Blinkin and Nod?. After that Lucy parted ways, as she got married and started a family.
After Lucy, Simon went in collaboration with Elephant?s Memory, and worked with them for next 6 months. Carly Simon emerged as a solo act in 1971 when she released her debut self titled album, after she sang ?Long Term Physical Effects? for the 1971 release Taking Off.
Her debut album was released by Elektra Records and also included That's the Way I've Always Heard It Should Be, which was her top ten hit track of that time, and reason for her immediate fame. Her debut album was then followed by her second studio album titled Anticipation.
Carly Simon touched the heights of success with her break through smash hit, titled ?You?re so vain?, which debuted at #1 on US Pop and Adult Contemporary Charts.
The song also got her 3 Grammy Awards for Song of the Year, Record of the Year and Best Pop Vocal Performance Female.It was then followed by her breakthrough album ?No Secrets?, which also debuted at #1 spot on US Album Charts, stayed at #1 for next 6 weeks. Another single from the same album titled ?The Right Thing to Do?, also gained notable success.
In 1974, Carly Simon released her next studio album titled Hotcakes, which was not as successful as her previous album ?No Secrets?. The album received certified Gold Status and peaked at #3 spot on Billboard?s album chart.
The following year Carly Simon released her greatest hits album titled ?The Best of Carly Simon? under a record deal with Elektra records. The album was a commercial success and was certified 3x Platinum.
Also in the same year she released another one of her studio albums titled ?Playing Possum? and later another one in 1976 titled Another Passenger. Both of her albums didn?t yield much success.
The following year, Carly Simon came up with another hit single titled ?Nobody Does it Better?, which was the sound track of a James Bond movie, ?The Spy Who Loved Me?.
