The trio has released two studio albums that have gathered critical commendation for the musical aptitude of the band in terms of lyrical and compositional brilliance. This year, the band goes on an extensive North American tour to celebrate not just their huge success since their debut, but also the upcoming release of their third studio album. Fans can now purchase Band of Skulls tickets to watch this trio light up the stage with their hard rock numbers.
As college friends, Marsden, Richardson and Hayward made their humble beginnings under the name Fleeing New York. They played at various night clubs and bars across Greater London, and used home sheds as a substitute for recording studios. 2008 marked the official creation of this band, as they decided to change the name from Fleeing New York to Band of Skulls. However, they stayed loyal to their sound, and continued making music, with alternative rock as the blanket genre under which they experimented with various sounds. With time, the band made diverse discourses into genres such as indie, blues, garage rock and light grunge.
Over the span of the last ten years, this band has amassed a huge amount of critical appreciation for the unique quality of their sound. In a time when alternative music is as commonplace as can be, and bands are emerging left right and center, Band of Skulls has managed to set itself apart. Their music is an ode to the various facets of the human experience and emotions which the band successfully translates into music that is not only highly enjoyable, but also has great lyrical depth.
While the band came together in 2004, their first album was not released till 2009. Titled, Baby Darling Doll Face Honey, the album was revered by a majority of the audiences and critics alike. British music magazine, Classic Rock, gave the album a thumping nine out of ten rating. With a debut that was praised for the honesty that the songs emulated in the lyrical composition and the originality that the musical compositions lent to the sound of the album, Band of Skulls established itself as an upcoming force to be reckoned with the in the music industry.
Their second album, titled Sweet Sour was released in 2012. Carrying on with their previous producer, Ian Davenport, the band retained the critical success that they received with their first release. More experienced than their first time, the band projected its progress and growth in its music. Structurally cohesive as an album, with guitar riffs and lines that became instant hits with the fans and stunning vocals by Marsden and Richardson, this sophomore release was the ultimate rock album. It became clear that this band was dedicated to what it was doing. And it was doing it like a pro.
The Band of Skulls' sound is one that is can generally be classified as alternative rock, but it tends to digress into indie, progressive rock, garage rock and blues. Lyrically, the band has come a long way since their first release. And musically, they've recognized their strength in guitar riffs that are reminiscent of great guitar legends like Slash. The band's sound is smooth, catchy and infectious; their development over time has molded their music into a well knit repertoire of songs.
Emma Richardson accompanies Russell Marsden on vocals and while a two-member vocal lead in bands is not unheard of, Band of Skulls manages to champion the dual vocals by using the voices as complementary to each other. Instead of clashing on the songs, both leads allow for a harmonized balance to the lyrics and the compositions and lend more critical value to the song. All in all, they have cemented their place in the industry as a band destined for greatness. For those looking for a chance to see one of the most entertaining rock acts, Band of Skulls tickets are now available for purchase.
