The band members, Michael Angelakos (Keyboards and Lead Vocals), Ian Hultquist (Keyboards), Jeff Apruzzese (Bass), Nate Donmoyer (Drums), and Ayad Al Adhamy (Synth./Samples) create loose beats, and boldly fruity tunes, which are topped with breathless little-boy vocals. Michael Angelakos, the 21 year-old now, started writing songs at the age of 5. Later, he experimented with the plug-ins and never-ending possibilities of a computer program, thus, the band's first EP, Chunk of Change, was produced by default, containing six tracks. It was released on September 16, 2008. The band attained great hype among the masses after the release of their initial EP and they got signed by the New York's indie label Frenchkiss which then re-released the Chunk of Change. The Chunk of Change EP also earned the band sold-out club gigs, as the band soon hit the road giving performances at various venues and cities for several festivals, such as South by Southwest and Austin City Limits.
Angelakos, a student of Media Studies, from Emerson College, along with his band Passion Pit, released a full-length debut album in 2009, their most recent one, known as Manners, produced by Chris Zane. Comprising 11 tracks in total, Manners has been released on the Frenchkiss Records in the U.S. and Canada on the 19th of May, 2009, and on Columbia Records in the U.K. on the 18th of May, 2009. The album starts with a beautifully composed upbeat song, Make Light, including a great variety of samples and synths, using a blend of guitars and drums, creating a much desirable Electro-Pop sound. The song sets an excellent example for the remaining album tracks. It contains shiny and energetic songs. On the whole, the album is more like a massive progressive melodious piece instead of being a compilation of songs, as it has been put together very skillfully.
Other than gaining attention from their albums, Passion Pit's live performances have also been received well, and the have opened for bands including RJD2, Death Cab for Cutie, These New Puritans, and Girl Talk.
