The origins of professional bull riding in the US can be traced back to the 1920s. At the time, it was a part of rodeo and not the standalone sport that the world has come to love today. A bunch of passionate bull riders wanted the game to have its own identity. And it was a leap of faith on their part that gave birth to the professional bull riding phenomenon back then.

The beginnings were rough and it took a while for the sport to become part of America's mainstream consciousness. Competitions

The Unleash the Beast (UTB) Series is currently the elite competition on the PBR Tour. Apart from the UTB, there is the main expansion series known as the Pendleton Whisky Velocity Tour (PWVT) and the minor Touring Pro Division.

The finest riders and the fiercest bulls on the PBR circuit battle in the elite UTB Series. Points are up for grabs in every event with a place in the season-ending PBR World Finals at stake. This is where the best rider over the whole season is crowned the PBR World Champion.

In the PWVT, the most talented up-and-comers in the game challenge more experienced campaigners in an attempt to make it to the UTB Series as well as the PBR World Finals. Lastly, the Touring Pro Division is the PBR Tour's newest series which allows young bull riders an opportunity to make it to the sport's elite division.

Pendleton Whisky Velocity Tour (PWVT)

In 2019, the PBR Tour had more events than ever before. The 2020 season will have even more shows than the previous year. In total, the sport will explore six new markets which is a testament to the ever-growing popularity of professional bull riding.

All the usual suspects will continue to challenge for more honors. The likes of Jess Lockwood, Jose Vitor Leme and Kaique Pacheco have made the PWVT their own in the past. They will surely be up for it once again. Others who could make it big this year include João Ricardo Vieira, Daylon Swearingen and Mason Taylor.
