The Singing Hoosiers is a name known to all the music fanatics and theatergoers of the States as they are America's Premiere Collegiate Concert Show Choir. The choir comprised of a group of talented and versatile collegiate musicians that give stylistic performances on a variety of choral music at different events and festivals.

The Singing Hoosiers feature collegiate performers from the world-renowned Indiana University. Most of these performers belong to the Jacobs School of Music while some of the performers are also taken from other majors like business, chemistry, political science and others. Together they perform as The Singing Hoosiers and make their University proud of the talent it produces.

The Singing Hoosiers is not just another college group that makes some casual musical appearances here and there. Rather the choir is an internationally recognized one that has released several CD's and has even been nominated for the prestigious Grammy awards.

The Singing Hoosiers are known for their performances on popular American music that includes jazz, pop and Broadway favorites and combinning them with dazzling choreography, energy and style. The choir boosts of an amazing lineup of 115 members that performs at different events all over the nation. The history of Singing Hoosiers takes us back in the early 1950s when the Indiana University has a Men's Concert Choir.

It was one of only three choral ensembles in the newly found Jacobs School of Music, and had fifty members in total. However, their passion and love for music was much bigger than the choir and resources and they made their mark very soon with their power-packed performances.

The change from Men's Concert Choir to the Singing Hoosiers came when once after their performance at a football rally, the announcer said: With a basketball team like the Hurryin' Hoosiers, a football team like the Fighting Hoosiers, we oughta call these guys the Singing Hoosiers! From then till now these talented music students from Indiana University has truly lived up to this name as they spread love and harmony through their beautiful music.

After becoming The Singing Hoosiers, female voices were also added in ensemble. They are now called the Hoosier Queens and they wear a custom-made concert dress. The men, on the other hand, wear a full-dress tails suit and give a beautiful feel as the Singing Hoosiers.

Over the years, The Singing Hoosiers represent themselves as the official Indiana University's ambassadors of song and music. They have more than half a century of musical tradition and they continue it with grace and respect. The Singing Hoosiers have entertained millions of music lovers in eighteen states and performed in more than twenty-six countries.

Their talent is appreciated all over Europe, Australia, the Far East, and the Caribbean while in America, they are real stars and inspiration for many youngsters interested in music.

The decade of 1990's witnessed the Singing Hoosiers ruling the world as they got nominations for two Grammy Awards. They were nominated for their recordings of A Disney Spectacular and The Music Man with Telarc International. They also released The Magical Music of Disney, Magical Musicals and Hollywood's Greatest Musicals that earned them even more fame and applause in the industry.

In 1995, the Singing Hoosiers recorded a Christmas special with Maestro Erich Kunzel and the Cincinnati Pops Orchestra. They performed at Carnegie Hall and appeared on a televised PBS Christmas special with Mel Torme with these recordings.

For Singing Hoosiers, music means everything and they always prove their mettle with superb live performances. The choir performs several concerts at home on their campus and other places. They perform at Chimes of Christmas concert every December and their Spring Concert performance is awaited throughout the year.

The group also sings in opera and oratorio productions of the IU Jacobs School of Music and at Big Ten basketball games. What makes them stand out in a crowd is the ease and perfection they show in their performances.
