Minnesota Orchestra's music director since 2003-04 has been Osmo Vanska. He is a Finnish conductor, compose and clarinetist. He initially started off his journey in the world of music as orchestra clarinetist in Turku Philharmonic in 1971. From 1977 to 1982 he was the principal clarinetist of Helsinki Philharmonic. On the end of his tenure of Heksinki, he entered the Young Composer's Competition, which he won.
