Jason Isbell belongs to Alabama and is an eighth-generation Alabamian. He belongs to a family of musicians, although his parents only enjoyed listening to music. He began working on music and songwriting in 2001. He joined the band Drive-By Truckers, who were highly influenced by rock music. He went with them on their album’s support tour. The album was titled ‘Southern Rock Opera’. Isbell worked on the next three albums that were produced by the Truckers providing lyrics and vocals on most of the songs.
 
Jason Isbell left the Truckers in 2007 to pursue a solo career. The separation was announced on the official website of the band where Patterson Hood urged the fans to continue supporting the band and Isbell’s solo work as well. Isbell released his debut album shortly after leaving the band. The title of the album was ‘Sires of the Ditch’ and it was released on the 10^th of July.
 
400 Unit and Isbell collaborated to produce the album ‘Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit’ in 2009. The world was introduced to 400 Unit through this album and it got Isbell the recognition that he deserved. The album was co produced by Matt Pence who also served as an engineer and drummer. Matt Pence was part of the Centro-Matic at that time. His second coloration with 400 Unit resulted in the album ‘Here We Rest’. The album was released in April 2011, under Lightening Records.
 
His latest album titled ‘Southeastern’ was released in 2013. He previously had huge success with the release of songs like ‘Outfit’ which he did with the Truckers back in the day. Jason Isbell gained recognition as a live performer with the release of his live album titled ‘Live from Alabama’ which paved way for the 2013 release.
 
‘Southeastern’ was released on the 11^th of June, 2013. The release of the album brought Isbell back to mainstream music and also introduced the world to his evolved music style. Ever since he left the Truckers, many people believed that he will not be able to rise again and be a successful musician. He proved all of them wrong and with his latest release he has established himself further as a musician.
 
His fans have really enjoyed most of the tracks off the album. Its best song according to them is ‘Elephant’. The number is full of dark music with lyrics that describe Isbell’s emotions and desperation. The album is highly influenced by acoustic guitar since 400 Unit have not worked with Isbell on it. Some of the songs do have parts where electric guitar is used, but there are only a few instances which require the use of anything digital.
 
The song ‘Different Days’ represents a father’s message to his son, where Isbell uses his vocals to emphasize just how desperate fathers can get sometimes. You go from the dark atmosphere of ‘Different Ways’ to the electric atmosphere of ‘Stockholm’. As the song name suggests,  it represents  disorder and the reason why a person falls  victim to it. He represents the change in human beings due to constant pressures or tragedies in the song ‘Live Oak’ where the opening lyrics mention how much change a person can undergo. Jason Isbell states regret and anxiety in almost all of his songs as he talks about life’s problems and tragedies.
