The group is more commonly addressed as its acronym, APTBS. They have released three studio albums along with eight EPs and four singles, the latter comprising of hits such as Keep SlippingAway, Burning Plastic and So far Away . A Place to Bury Strangers was created in 2001 as a result of David Goffan's continuous performances with eight-track recorders. Towards the end of 2002, the latter was joined by Tim Gregorio, and then Oliver Ackerman who wanted to be the band's drummer, but moved on to playing the guitar and doing vocals after his first try. The trio performed their first show in 2003 at Brooklyn's Luxx. Jono Mofo and Jay Space, who were both from the NYC band MOFO, became part of the band upon Gregorio's leaving. Since then, the group has been focusing more on the quality of its music than volume alone. In 2006, they made three varying untitled EPs that were issued with different color schemes, which later came to be referred to as the Green, Red and Blue EPs.
In 2006, A Place to Bury Strangers began gaining some recognition after its performance at Webster Hall, alongside Brian Jonestown Massacre. The group came back to play at Webster Hall the following year to perform alongside their main inspirational bands, Jesus And Mary Chain. During its early years the band's live performances became exceedingly boisterous, a characteristic that brought them the title of the loudest band of NYC from many indie bloggers and reviewers. Washington Post described them as an 'ear-shatteringly loud shoegaze/garage band' while New York Times praised them for reviving the eighties' 'feedback-drenched drones'.
In 2007, A Place to Bury Strangers released their first album by the same name, following which the group joined the American rock band Black Rebel Motorcycle Club for their HolyFuck tour. In April the next year, the band announced that it would be opening many shows for Nine Inch Nails for their US tour. The group released its albums in the UK for the first time in 2008, after performing several shows in the UK and receiving favorable reviews from British media. A few months later, the group came back to Europe for a tour supporting MGMT, in the same month that they released their album in, the coincidence of which created a havoc in the UK media.
A Place to Bury Strangers signed with Mute Records in 2009 and announced yet another European tour. They promised to make appearances at the Siren Music Festival, Rock al Parque, Seaport Music Festival, and Coachella Valley Music & Art Festival. By October they released their second studio offering titled ExplodingHead, with In Your Heart as the first single followed by Keep Slipping Away.In 2010, the band went to Bogota, Columbia for the first time, to perform in Rock al Parque where they had played the biggest free rock festival of South America. Rock al Parque is considered to be the best rock festival on Latin American soil, so that the group made major headlines for gathering the biggest crowds there. This band has established its reputation for incredible live performances so book A Place to Bury Strangers tickets and be there to experience the raw hard rock fun.
