PNC Bank Arts Center
Center for the live performances of the most happening artists throughout the summer season, PNC Bank Arts Center was originally named Garden State Arts Center, as it was constructed after the legislation for the Garden State Parkway was passed back in 1954. Located at Garden State Parkway in Holmdel, New Jersey, PNC Band Arts Center was erected with the aim of providing the city with the center for on going music and performing arts scene. The amphitheatre was designed by the architect Edward Durell Stone and it originally had 5,000 seats, and capacity of upholding 5,000 more people with in its lawn.
On June 12, 1968 the amphitheatre opened its gate for the audiences and featured Philadelphia Orchestra along with renowned conductor Eugene Ormandy and last but not the least pianist Van Cliburn, as well. Soon the amphitheatre was known for staging some of the finest classical and pop music events; however later on a number non profit events were also held at the amphitheatre for both school children and special people. PNC Bank Arts Center also became the home for International Heritage Festivals, which were also non profit events and are still held at the amphitheatre, as of the present moment.
PNC Bank Arts Center also houses a banquet hall with in its vicinity that is utilized for private events; apart from that New Jersey Vietnam Veterans' Memorial also took the grounds at the Arts Center in 1995. The following year the amphitheatre underwent a significance expansion in the seating area, with the aim of holding much larger concerts, and stand in line with the rest of larger outdoor music venues. After the expansion was over and done with, amphitheatre could now hold 2000 more people with in its seating area, while the capacity of the lawn was also doubled. Also in the same year, the Arts Center also underwent its first name change, as the naming rights of the amphitheatre were handed over to PNC Bank, based in Pittsburgh, hence renaming the amphitheatre to, PNC Bank Arts Center.
Over the years, PNC Bank Arts Center is billed for hosting the live concerts by some of the famous mainstream musicians of our times, including Gwen Stefani, Fall Out Boy, Phish and many others. James Taylor is perhaps the most frequent artist that happens to perform at the amphitheatre almost every year. Bruce Springsteen also staged a number of his concerts at the Arts Center, and apart from that Jackson Browne's live album entitled Running on Empty that was released in 1977, was also recorded at the PNC Bank Arts Center.
