Formed in 1977, the band initially comprised of musicians Bobby Kimball, Steve Porcaro, Steve Lukather, David Hungate, Jeff Porcaro and David Paich. The album charted well on international charts and landed at number nine position on the US Billboard 200 chart. With hit single like 'Georgy Porgy', 'I'll Supply the Love' and 'Hold the Line', the album went two times Platinum in Canada and the US whereas Gold in Germany. The band continued to enjoy loyal fan following with its next release 'Hydra' that topped the Norway Albums chart, VG-Lista. The album went Platinum in Canada and Gold in the US. The album's single '99', managed to break on the Billboard Hot 100 chart at twenty-six position.
In 1982, Toto released its breakthrough album 'Toto IV' that catapulted the band in a new era of stardom. The album topped the charts in Netherland, Canada and Australia. It also landed at number four position in UK as well as the US. It was certified three times Platinum in the US, two times Platinum in Canada and Platinum in Netherland, Germany and France. Featuring hit singles 'Waiting For You Love', 'I Won't Hold You Back', 'Make Believe', 'Africa' and 'Rosanna', the album won six Grammy Awards for the band.
Toto has released a total of twelve studio albums, eight compilation albums, four live albums and over forty singles. The band has seen several lineup changes over the years and currently comprises Simon Philips on drums, Joseph Williams on vocals, Steve Porcaro on keyboards, David Paich on vocals and Steve Lukather on guitar. Several renowned musicians have collaborated with Toto on its famous worldwide tours including Jory Steinberg, Jon Farriss, Tony Spinner, Jon Smith, James Newton Howard, Denny Dias and Tom Kelly. In 2009, the band was honored with a prestigious induction into the Musicians Hall of Fame and Museum for its immense contribution to the music industry. With sales of over thirty five million albums around the globe, Toto is considered to be one of the best selling acts of the past century.
