DTE Energy Music Theatre was formerly called the "Pine Knob Music Theatre". The reason being it was situated in the vicinity of the great "Pine Knob" ski arena and golf course.

People of Clarkston kept calling it the Pine Knob Music Theatre until 2001 when the parent company of Detroit Edison, the DTE Energy bought its naming rights for ten years in $10 million. Even after this name changing, people sill like to call it with its original name the "Pine Knob Theater" or just "the Knob".
