Soon after taking over, the new team was renamed as the Baltimore Orioles, by the Miles-Hofberger group. The name already existed, as it was being used by the baseball teams of Baltimore as well, during the nineteenth century.
At the end of nineteenth century, many prominent names (the future Hall of Famers), including Wilbert Robinson, "Wee" Willie Keeler, John McGraw and Hughie Jennings were included a powerful and innovative National League Orioles squad came into picture. They won pennants one after another and also took part in all the 'Temple Cup Championship Series', ultimately winning two of the four. Following that they became American Association's charter member. It took about them around six years to come to the level of the new AL Orioles. A strong farm system developed the stars such as Brooks Robinson, John "Boog" Powell and Dave McNally by the early 1960s.
