A Mexican musical duo, Rodrigo Y Gabriela is noted for playing fast, rhythmic classical guitars.

The duo comprises of lead guitarist Rodrigo Sánchez and rythemic guitarist Gabriela Quintero, while 'y' is spanish for 'and'. Rodrigo and Gabriela describe their style as 'Fusion music'. Their music has significantly got Latin harmonies and rhythms and it follows rock structure.

Rodrigo and Gabriela used to play together in a thrash metal band called "Tierra Acida" in Mexico City. The two grew frustrated with the limited scope of the domestic music scene, they pulled up roots and moved to Europe.

After hearing Dublin, Ireland was particularly welcoming to traveling musicians, they took up residence in that city where they have met considerable acclaim.

They would play live gigs in various pubs and busk on Grafton Street and Temple Bar and availed the opportunities to practice their sound.

Their self-titled album was produced by John Leckie and it entered the Irish Albums Chart at number 1. The album was released internationally on March 13th 2006.

Rodrigo y Gabriela includes covers of Metallica's "Orion" and Led Zeppelin's "Stairway to Heaven". The duo list Metallica as being among their key influences, alongside other heavy metal bands. Other influences include Megadeth, Testament, Slayer, and Overkill.

The album"s other tracks are original works inspired by the places Rodrigo y Gabriela have been and the people they have met. The album was subsequently certified platinum in Ireland. On October 20th, they came up with "Live in Japan".

The album captured Rodrigo & Gabriela making their live Japanese debut, at Tokyo"s Duo club on March 30, 2008. Live in Japan included 14 tracks, and a bonus DVD containing 5 videos.

Since, Rodrigo y Gabriela grew up during Mexico's 'metal era', people expected two acoustic guitarists would play classical music, but they dropped in extracts from Led Zep, Hendrix and Metallica.

Talking about influences for their music, the duo stated that influences range from family salsa records to Pink Floyd, Queen, Black Sabbath, and Led Zeppelin vinyl. Rodrigo y Gabriela"s feature on MTV gave them a huge boost in popularity in the United States.

The duo was featured on the tribute album entitled Nightmare Revisited. It was a tribute to the music from Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas. Rodrigo y Gabriela were also featured performing an instrumental version of "Oogie Boogie's Song".

They currently use hand-made guitars produced by Frank Tate. Rodrigo y Gabriela, in order to promote their music, have embarked on their tour to the big cities in United States. The duo is sure to be coming to your City soon.
