Beverly
If you want to explore an historic, seaside city with miles of beautiful coastline than Beverly is the place for you. Located in northeastern Massachusetts, Beverly offers unlimited options for your fun and enjoyment.
Its picture-perfect locales and good governance make it a premier tourist destination and its regular exciting events are attended by millions from all over States and beyond.
Beverly boosts of a perfect geography. Located approximately 20 miles north of Boston, it mostly attracts visitors from nearby places. Beverly is bordered by Danvers on the west, Wenham on the north and east, Wenham and Manchester on the east, and Beverly Harbor and the Danvers River on the south. Those who visit these cities often take a trip or two to Beverly as the city has such an intoxicating appeal that it compels its visitor to come back over and over again.
Founded in 1628, the settlement of Beverly was diverse and unique, just like most cities and towns in the United States. From its humble beginning as a small Puritan village to becoming a small city, Beverly has developed and settled quite like many surrounding towns. More depth study and you will find that the first real settlement of Beverly occurred in what was then called Salem.
The original settlers were Roger Conant, John Balch, John and William Woodberry. Between 1770 to 1840 there was not much movement in Beverly and residents were mostly native born. But this pattern of migration or settlement changed very soon due to flood of immigration in the mid-19th and then in early 20th centuries. The construction of railroad also contributed a lot in the development of town.
Beverly gave many firsts to America. These include the first cotton mill and the first Sunday school. Residents describe the city as the birthplace of the United States Navy as well, saying that the first ship commissioned by the Navy was first sailed from Beverly Harbor. This shows that Beverly has always remained an active contributor in countrys progress.
However, the city itself appeared with full force only in 1903, when the United Shoe Machinery Company opened it doors here. This company opened many new job opportunities in the City of Beverly. The company also gave Beverly a Recreation Club, which is now called Beverly Golf and Tennis. The Shoe closed in the 1970s and later became the Cummings Center which now holds many new businesses.
From the early 1920s till many decades later, Beverly serves as a suburban community. Today, the city stands proud on its firm beliefs and boosts of a healthy environment both geographically and otherwise. Those who want to explore the signs of the earliest settlements can visit original buildings like Balch House or can stumble upon a stone wall or an old gravestone as these truly represents Beverlys initial times. Besides this, the Beverly Historical Society and Museum has been preserving and caring for Beverly's past quite wonderfully.
Being rich in history does not mean that Beverly is good only for researchers and history lovers. Indeed, with its working waterfront and diverse neighborhoods, Beverly is a delightful experience for everyone in the family. The city boasts of multiple public beaches, parks, playgrounds, ponds, riverfront walkways, woods and trails.
Its rich culture can be seen through the lenses of several cultural institutions that the city has. Beverlys arts district promises the best of arts and entertainment. It includes Montserrat College of Art, Museum of Fine Arts, the Institute of Contemporary Arts many local galleries and two theaters.
Dane Street Beach and Lynch Park are perhaps two of the many attractive tourists destinations of Beverly. Located in the city's Cove section, Lynch Park & Beaches are the perfect summer spot for swimming, kayaking, sun bathing, and picnics.
The beautiful public library is good for those who love to read while others can have fun in its main streets and downtown markets. Beverlys downtown offers a wide variety of restaurants and bistros for all tastes and. Many of these offer an active music scene. The tree-lined downtown streets also include shops, boutiques and services businesses, and a train station that takes you to Boston in half an hour.
Beverlys theater scene is quite interesting. North Shore Music Theatre is the Mecca of entertainment freaks as it offers a variety of programs including musicals and celebrity concerts. It is also the home of one of New England's largest non-profit music theater education departments and presents their performances as well.
The other theatre housed a nationally recognized resident magic company and a movie theater. The Cabot Street Cinema Theatre boasts the world's longest running magician's show. Marco the Magi and Le Grand David are two characters prominent in the show.
The theater itself is early 20th century style, and also shows films on a regular basis. Beverly also boosts of sports facilities like Hurd Stadium and Harry Ball Field that is home to the first and oldest little league in Massachusetts.
Beverly is the best bet for those who value fun and entertainment and always look for convenient yet eventful holiday place. Just visit this city for once and you will be delighted with its wonderful attractions and lively cultural scene. Go for it as Beverly really rocks!
