It does not happen everyday that an artist dares to blend different kind of music to come with a rare sound that is acclaimed by all and sundry.Citizen Cope is one such artist who is a known name to every music enthusiast. He is a celebrated keyboard player, guitarist, singer, DJ and record producer based in New York.

His actual name is Clarence Greenwood, but he used the name Citizen Cope as a pseudonym and the name of his band. He is famous for blending many genres of music, such as folk, blues, reggae, hip hop, rock, and R&B.

Greenwood was born in Memphis, Tennessee and raised in Washington, DC. He has always been interested in all kinds of music. He used to listen to a lot of music as a kid.

He also used to play little trumpet in elementary school besides writing poetry, and working on some bits of songs off and on. Music was the biggest escape of his life as kept shifting from Texas to Mississippi up to Washington D.C.

Citizen Cope's musical career was started when he became a DJ for hip hop act Basehead.This group had a significant impact on his style as a solo-musician and he decided to adopt music as a profession as there was nothing more that he was crazy about. He put his whole life and experiences in his music and came up with the finest blend of all different types of music.

The first recognition point came for Cope in mid-nineties, when his demos were passed around the Washington music community.

He released his first album in September 2002 titled Citizen Cope. Greenwood promoted the record fully and performed at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival in Indio, California and other places.He was later signed by Arista Records and RCA Records.

His RCA debut was a super-hit ?The Clarence Greenwood Recordings,? that showed the world the brilliancy of Citizen Cope. All the songs became widely popular and some of them were featured in several movies and T.V shows.

He toured steadily for sixteen-months and built a connection with his fans the world over.He has truly arrived in a big way and was going to remain at top in times to come.

Citizen Cope saw critical success with the release of his second record 'The Clarence Greenwood Recordings' in September 2004.This was followed by his popular tours including a successful United States tour in 2005.

He released his next album in September, 2006. Titled 'Every Waking Moment,' the new album saw unprecedented success and further developed the stardom of Citizen Cope.

He parted ways with RCA records in early this year and did a special solo show at the London Luminaire in Kilburn.He is also planning some more tours and a whole load of his trademark music in the coming year.
