Details of Billy Cobham and the Ticket Luck value
Billy Cobham is one of the few musicians with an avant-garde approach towards music. With a zest for creativity Cobham has time and time again pushed the envelope to come up with something inspiring and new. He is a successful jazz drummer, composer, songwriter and the founding member of The Mahavishnu Orchestra. Presenting a combination of jazz, jazz fusion, post-bop, rock and roll and jazz funk, this American artist entered the field in the late 1960s while eventually changing the landscape of music.
According to Allmusic he is often regarded as “fusion’s greatest drummer with an influential style that combines explosive power and exacting precision.” In his fairly long and illustrious career, Billy Cobham has dug up the deepest layers of jazz music discovering dimensions previously unknown to the world. Hence broadening his range of genres he has to offer. To see what this legendary musician has in store for his fans buy Billy Cobham tickets.
This multi-faceted personality has released a vast array of albums since the beginning of his career. Thus, every album reveals a different side of him. “I have always found it difficult to focus upon one direction in music…projecting ideas and thoughts through a musical kaleidoscope” explains the jazz artist. Spectrum, Total Eclipse, A Funky Thide of Sings, Crosswinds, and The Art of Three are just a few among his highly successful albums. Moreover, there are countless albums he is a part of as Cobham has worked with many artists over the years. Jazz is Dead, Mose Allison, Gene Ammons, George Benson, Bobby and the Midnites, Brothers Johnson, Miles Davis are to mention a few. Other albums include; Where the Beat meets the Street, White Rabbit, Big Bad Jug, Lessons in Living, Lookout for Number One, and A Tribute to Jack Johnson.
Spectrum, a 1973 release received 4.5/5 stars from Allmusic and is deemed one of the finest works by Cobham. Offering jazz fusion, the debut album met with highly positive response for its refreshing approach. It also reflected the drummer’s personal influences which included Miles David, The Mahavishnu Orchestra and Weather Report. To the Women in My Life, Spectrum, Stratus and Searching for the Right Door are some of the songs from the album. Hitting the shelves next year was Crosswinds containing four songs altogether; Spanish Moss, The Pleasant Pheasant, Heather, and Crosswinds. The contribution of stars like John Aber, Michael Breker, George Duke, John Williams, and Garnett Brown also added to the album’s wow factor. Again the album took no time in becoming a fan favorite while also winning over the critics as Allmusic gave it 3/5 stars. The Funky Thide of Sings was another hit catering to jazz funk and jazz fusion fans. It came out in 1975 spawning hits like Thinking of You, Moody Modes, Sorcery, and A Funky Kind of Thing.
Total Eclipse was another release that turned out to be a benchmark in Billy Cobham’s career. It not only showcased his technical abilities but helped him shine as a composer too. Solarization, Moon Germs, Moon Ain’t made of Green Cheese, and Sea of Tranquility are some of the classics that epitomize his talent to the very core. The Art of Three is also among the standouts. It featured Kenny Barron, Ron Carter while Cobham completed the trio. The melodies and the lyrical content reminded of Miles David, Dave Brubeck and Bill Evans as the threesome put their heart and soul into it. Hence, making the album catchy while infusing fusion and post-bop into the songs. New Waltz, And Then Again, Someday My Prince will Come, Bouncing with the Bud, and Stella by Starlight capture the true essence of the album.
Although Cobham has been around for ages, his popularity has not diminished as even today he continues making music that always leaves his fans wanting for more. Some of his recent releases include; Drum and Voice, Drum ‘n’ voice 2 and 3, The Art of Four, Fruit from the Loom, Palindrome etc. However, it is the 2011’s album called Rock the Tabla that stirred frenzy among the media as it showed collaborations with world-renowned artists like A.R Rehman, Hossam Ramzy, Omar Faruk Tekbilek and Manu Katche. As the Billy Cobham is all about giving the fans something new to listen to buying Billy Cobham tickets will not be regretted.
