Combining darkly crooned rock with earth shattering metal execution, the band exploded into worldwide prominence after the release of their album, The Poison. It was released in the UK. The first single from this album, Suffocating Under Words of Sorrow (What Can I Do?) made it to number 37 in the UK Singles Chart, this was later beaten by their next single, All These Things I Hate (Revolve Around Me), which made it to 29th position. Other albums include a self titled album, Bullet For My Valentine EP (2004) and Scream Aim Fire (2008).
Originating from Bridgend in South Wales, Bullet For My Valentine was formed back in 1998 by singer and guitarist, Matt Tuck; Lead guitarist, Michael Paget; Bassist, Nick Crandle and drummer, Michael Thomas. This small area has also been home turf for such artists as LostProphets and Funeral For A Friend. Growing up on a steady diet of Metallica, Iron Maiden, Machine Head and rock like Guns N Roses the friends without James started a group in their pre-teen years called Jeff Killed John before developing a style all of their own as Bullet For My Valentine. Nick Crandle left the band shortly after they formed and Jason James replaced him to form the line up that remains today. After a few months playing live the band attracted a certain amount of attention from record companies and eventually decided to sign to Sony Music Entertainment. In November 2004 a self-titled EP was released and later a second EP entitled Hand Of Blood was released. In 2005, The Poison was released in the UK. The album immediately shot to number one at rock radio. Here in America, Revolver magazine heralded the band British Import of the Year, and The Poison generated the hit singles Tears Don't Fall and All These Things I Hate (Revolve Around Me),with the video for All These Things I Hate going to the #1 spot on MTV2. Known for their live vigor the group sold out a headlining tour through the UK, as well as high profile tours through Japan. During a hectic and insanely well received tour of Japan, affable drummer, Michael Moose Thomas contracted a potentially fatal strain of flu! In 2005 they won Kerrang!'s Best British Newcomer Award and headlined the magazine's XXV tour.
With February 2006 came the U.S. release of The Poison, followed by a nationwide tour in support of Rob Zombie. Selling more than one-million copies worldwide 350,000 in the U.S. alone - The Poison was hailed by London's daily The Sun as "One of the finest debut albums in rock history". Their riffs and mini solos are amazing and flawless (some new metal bands tend to not be able to control their rhythm straight off), and they range from melodic rock to the more heavy metal so it suits everyone that's into this genre. The album's cover shows a dark black and red imagery of a woman laying in a pool of blood and shadow of a man equally reflects the bands name & the album's music. The inlay reflects an accompanying style with their moving poetic lyrics to each song.
At the Download Festival, Bullet has played three times, alongside one of their biggest influence, Metallica, among other bands such as Guns 'N' Roses and Trivium.
Bullet For My Valentine have recently finished their follow up album, Scream, Aim, Fire and are hoping to release the highly anticipated sophomore album in the UK by late January, 2008. The album has 11 tracks which are produced by Colin Richardson (Machine Head, Funeral For A Friend) and recorded at Sonic Ranch just outside of El Paso, TX in early 2007. According to MatthewMatt Tuck, the album is really melodic heavy metal catchy, hooky choruses and full-on vocals with the music being very in-your-face and heavy it's a lot more up-tempo than The Poison, a lot more aggressive. With a lifetime of classic metal inspiration behind him, vocalist/guitarist Tuck is a formidable and powerful voice for the ever energetic, young metal generation. To support the release of Scream Aim Fire, Bullet for My Valentine will set off on what will be more than two years of solid, worldwide touring, starting in the UK and Europe in January, 2008, and then coming to America beginning in late February.
These four musicians are now considered prominent players in the UK/European metal world, as well as serious up-and-comers here in the U.S. Definitely worth seeing live!
