The Arlington based Texas Rangers started their professional baseball in the sixties. This team currently participates in the West Division of American League. Previously, the team was based in Washington and was known as the 'Washington Senators'. In 1962, Charles Finley the team's owner floated the idea of taking this team to Arlington. The suggestion was not welcomed by the rest of American League owners. The proposition went into hiatus till the Democratic National Committee's treasurer Bob Short took charge.

In 1968, he was successful in getting the approval to shift the team to Arlington. The approval was given to the senators that they can play their 1972 season in Arlington. In 1972, Bob Short renamed the franchise to Texas Rangers. In 1972, April 15, they played their first game as Texas Rangers and lost to California Angels at 1-0. The Rangers still remain the only team in MLB to finish at .500 even after 100-loss in two seasons consecutively. The season concluded at Mike Hargrove being the 'American League's Rookie of the Year'. Billy Martin won the 'Manager of the Year' title while 'American League's Most Valuable Player' was declared as Jeff Burroughs. This was the season when Ferguson Jenkins earned the title of 'Comeback Player of the Year'.

In 1981, Rangers' spot in the playoffs slipped away after they lost to Oakland Athletics. Their prospects of winning were very much likely due to their amazing performance in the 1977-79 season. The Oakland Athletics dominated half of the Western Division season. Following 1981, Texas Rangers remained unlucky in winning again for next five seasons. Their worst trade took place at the same times as they exchanged Jim Sundberg for Ned Yost. Jim Sundberg was the Gold Glove catcher who became a member of 'Milwaukee Brewers'.

Bobby Valentine has the honor of becoming the manager who served the team for longest period of time. He remained the manager of Rangers for over one thousand games. In the late 80s and 90s, he was known as the steward over the team's talent. The exceptional players Pete Incaviglia and Ruben Sierra had great contributions in winning the 1986 season. At the end of the season, the Rangers were still five games behind division-winning California. Ryan made the season memorable by completing his five thousandth strikeout and three hundredth win. In 1987, Texas Rangers were the only team in Major League Baseball to have four catchers in their lineup for the season. Darrell Porter, Geno Petralli, Don Slaught and Mike Stanley were simataneously playing as the catchers of the team. Kennedy became the manager of the team in 1993. In 1993, Texas Rangers were the firsts to get into serious controversy to content for berth since 1974. The 1994 season featured a perfect game by Kenny Rogers.

The year 1995 started on a most promising note for the Texas Rangers. The manager of the Texas Rangers was Johnny Oates. He promptly led the team to win American League's West division trophy of 1996 season. Though Rangers won Game 1 for their first playoff victory but eventually they lost against Yankees. This was their first series in the history after 24 years as Texas Rangers in which they appeared in the playoffs.

The Rangers 2006 season ended with a disappointing 80-82 record and a third-place finish in the Western American League. Texas Rangers had a wonderful season last year.
