The Drake Bulldogs are the many varsity teams that make up the athletics program of the world famous Drake University, located at Des Moines, Iowa. This program's teams are members of the Missouri Valley Conference, except for the football team, which is a member of the Pioneer Football League. It is an NCAA Division I program, home to seventeen varsity teams of which the football teams play and practice at the Drake Stadium. Likewise, the basketball teams practice at the Knapp Center. The Drake Bulldogs field men's teams in Basketball, Cross country, Football, Golf, Soccer, Tennis and Track & field. The program began during the eighteen nineties, with the first football and basketball games played in 1893. In 1898, the football was ranked the best in the west. In 1907, it joined the Missouri Valley Conference and three years later, the first wrestling match was held. During the twenties, they won the National Championship in football with a perfect season, visiting the White House as a result. During the forties, the Drake Bulldogs won the NCAA National championship once in team cross country, twice in individual cross country and twice in wrestling. During the fifties, two more athletes competed in the Olympic Games, held in 1952, and won yet another National NCAA championship.
 
Since 2000, the Drake Bulldogs have won two football championships, three women's basketball championships, one men's basketball championship, four women's soccer titles and two men's soccer titles, appearing in the NCAA Tournament many times. One of their players set a record in the MLS, by winning three MLS Cups in ten years.
