Neil deGrasse Tyson is the winner of 2014 Critics' Choice Television Award for "Best Reality Show Host." He is known as an American author, astrophysicist and science communicator. Presently he manages the Hayden Planetarium at the Rose Center for Earth and Space. He also contributes to the American Museum of Natural History in the position of a research associate at the department of astrophysics. During the period 2006-2011, Neil was popularly known as the host of PBS's "NOVA ScienceNow,"an educational science television show. He has been frequently making guest appearances on Real Time with Bill Maher, The Daily Show, The Colbert Report and more. Since 2009, Neil has been hosting "StarTalk," a weekly radio show. In 2014, Neil started to host "Cosmos: A Spacetime Odyssey" which is an updated version of Carl Sagan's TV series "Cosmos: A Personal Voyage."
Neil received his earlier education in public educational institutes and graduated from the Bronx High School of Science. He then moved on to get further education from Harvard (Bachelors in Physics) and Columbia (PhD Degree in Astrophysics). Neil's list of professional interests includes structure of Milky Way, exploding stars, dwarf galaxies, star formation and more. Three years down the road, President Bush once again selected him as a member of the nine member commission for Implementation of the United States Space Exploration Policy. Neil continues to pen publications for the public. For the period 1995 - 2005, Neil worked as a monthly essayist for the magazine called Natural History. He did so under the title, Universe. Two of his recent books that gained a lot of popularity include "Death By Black Hole: And Other Cosmic Quandaries" and "The Pluto Files: The Rise and Fall of America's Favorite Planet." The former book was regarded as New York Times bestseller. The documentary run on PBS/NOVA titled The Pluto Files is based on Neil's latter book. Starting in 2006, Neil hosted the PBS-NOVA's spinoff program "NOVA ScienceNOW" for five seasons. Over the years, Neil has won eighteen honorary doctorates. NASA honored him by presenting the "NASA Distinguished Public Service Medal," which is regarded as the highest award earned by a non-government citizen.
