Paula began to do live comedy at open mic nights in the late 70s in Boston. By the 80s, the young talent was seen performing improvisational sets at The Other Café comedy club in San Francisco. In the meantime, Paula Poundstone also appeared in a Hollywood film,  Hyperspace. She could've pursued a career in acting but refused to do so and by the late 80s, Paula was holding the American Comedy Award for "Best Female Stand-Up Comic." Right after receiving this precious accolade, Paula featured in an HBO special, Cats, Cops and Stuff for which she was honored with a CableACE Award. She is the first female to win the honor for best "Standup Comedy Special."
