Dru Hill is a famous American R&B group, active in the American music industry since 1992. Hailing from Baltimore, Maryland, the group has released albums via Island Records, Def Soul and Kedar Entertainment Group. Dru Hill rose to fame during the late nineties for their R&B, soul and gospel music. Seven of their songs made it to the Top 40 of the charts, including three number one hits, Never Make a Promise, In My Bed and How Deep Is Your Love.

The group was founded by Tamir 'Nokio' Ruffin and all original members of the group except for James 'Woody Rock' Green are still active today. During the nineties, they released two very successful studio albums, before going on hiatus in 1999.

They reunited in 2002, now as part of Def Soul records. Rufus 'Scola' Waller joined the band and in 2009, they were signed onto Kedar. Woody left the band and was replaced by Antwuan 'Tao' Simpson.

Dru Hill started off with when friends James Green and Mark Andrews, who studied at the same middle school, became acquainted with Tamir Ruffin. They decided to pursue careers in music and the three formed a group of Ruffin's beckoning. This first group was home to two other Baltimore natives and was dubbed 14K Harmony.

They began performing live around Baltimore and were discovered by talent manager Kevin Peck while performing at Morgan State University. At that time, they also worked at The Fudgery, a fudge factory, where they would sing while making fudge to entertain visitors.

Initially, Dru Hill played gospel music and then moved to more commercially successful R&B. In 1994, Larry 'Jazz' Anthony, then an opera student, joined the group after two members of the group left. The group's name changed to Storm and then to Legacy.

In 1995, they attracted the attention of Island Black Music president, Hiram Hicks, who saw them perform at a talent show. He immediately flew them to New York to record a song for the movie Eddie, which starred Whoopi Goldberg. The song was originally set to be sung by Dave Hollister of Blackstreet fame but after Hiram Hicks heard the band, he went with them.

The band signed with Island Records and changed their name, to reflect the famous Druid Hill Park in west Baltimore. In 1996, they released a self-titled album which was certified gold and their song Tell Me, recorded for the movie Eddie, ranked in the Top 5 in the US.

Dru Hill's early music was compared to a cross between Boyz II Men and Jodeci, with their music strongly influenced by New Edition and Stevie Wonder. They wrote their own songs and also worked with songwriters Keith Sweat and Eric Phillips. The band made waves in the American music industry with the number one R&B hit song, In My Bed, which was also a Top 5 pop hit.

In 2010, the group released its fourth studio album, titled InDRUpendence Day and are hard at work on a fifth album.
