Another last minute drop out of the flight included the artist Dion DiMucci. Soon after take off the plane went missing and its wreckage was found the day after in a corn field just six miles away from where the plane had taken off. The singer Don McLean wrote a song paying homage to the artists who went down in the fall, known as "American Pie". Though the song was officially named "American Pie", it later on became known as "The Day the Music Died", which refers to the deaths of rock and roll legends.
