The Righteous Brothers have built quite a legacy. They are proud members of Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and have also been nominated multiple times at the Grammys. The group is now going to return on the road and will soon be playing multiple shows across North America. So, will you be there when they make their stop in your city next?
How It All Started
The founders of The Righteous Brothers, Bill Medley and Bobby Hatfield were a part of different groups before they met. Medley was in the Paramours while Hatfield was jamming with the Variations. Barry Rillera who was a part of both groups, suggested Medley and Hatfield to watch each other's show and perform together. In 1962, a member of Paramours left which led to the two, Bill Medley and Bobby Hatfield to join forces together, forming a new Paramour with Johnny Wimber. The band then signed a recording contract with Moonglow and released a single, There She Goes (She's Walking Away). The track didn't bring them significant success which led to the band breaking up, leaving Medley and Hatfield behind who later started a group as a duo calling themselves as The Righteous Brothers.
The duo then started to record their debut studio album and released 'Right Now!' in 1963. It reached the eleventh spot on the Billboard 200. It featured the single, Little Latin Lupe Lu which became a moderate hit. The band then came out with their second studio effort, 'Some Blue-Eyed Soul.'
Grabbing the Attention of Phil Spector
In October 1964, The Righteous Brothers caught the attention of Phil Spector who signed them to his label, Philles Records and commissioned Cynthia Weil and Barry Mann to write a song for them. The result was, You've Lost That Lovin' Feelin'. This single became a monstrous hit, hitting the first spot on the Billboard Hot 100 and featured in their fifth album of the same name which landed at the ninth spot in the U.S. The guys then released two more efforts through Philles Records, 'Just Once In My Life...' and 'Back to Back.'
Temporary Breakups
The Righteous Brothers signed to Verve Records which issued six records including, 'Soul & Inspiration' which became their only album to achieve gold sales in the States. Bill Medley and Bobby Hatfield temporarily disbanded in 1971 and got together later in 1974. The group then parted ways for the second time in 1976. They later returned in 1981 and went on to release three compilation efforts out of which 'Unchained Melody – Best Of The Righteous Brothers' was certified double platinum by the RIAA. The group disbanded after the death of Hatfield in 2003.
The Revival and Tour
In 2016, Bill Medley revived The Righteous Brothers and added Bucky Heard in the group. The duo has been touring ever since. They are now scheduled to trek through different cities across the U.S. and Canada. So, if you want to watch them perform live then get The Righteous Brothers tickets quickly.
