One of the most amazing musicals of all time is about to take to the stage once again. The epic Sunset Boulevard is a theatrical production that has captivated the hearts of millions around the globe. The story of a film star trying to get to the top once again is theater as it should be. Now that the latest production is just around the corner book your Sunset Boulevard tickets and catch it live.
Sunset Boulevard is inspired by a book written by Don Black who has also done the musical's lyrics. The music has been given by none other than the iconic Andrew Lloyd Webber. The story of the play revolves around Norma Desmond, one of the most famous stars to have graced the screen during the silent films era. She hasn't quite made the jump to talking movies and one of the reasons is that age has started to catch up. Norma however still thinks she is good enough to make the switch. Joe Gillis, a young aspiring screenwriter then gets to meet her accidently. Desmond shows her a script she had been writing that she thinks will take her to the top of the movie industry once again. Gillis tells her that he will edit the script for her if she lets him stay in her worn down mansion. Desmond agrees to that and the two began to live together while Gillis works on the script. Gillis is in love with Betty Schaefer who is a script writer. Desmond starts to lavish Gillis with expensive gifts because she thinks he is going to end up helping her re-gain her throne as the most sought after actress in the industry. She eventually ends up falling in love with Gillis and that is what triggers a series of events that lead all the way to its stunning conclusion.
Sunset Boulevard made its debut in the year 1991 at the famous Sydmonton Festival. The play then made its way to West End two years later. It didn't initially get a lot of people talking about it. At the end of the year the musical made its way to Los Angeles with a script that was a little different to the one for the West End production. It turned out to be a huge hit that had fans and critics purring over it. It played at LA for three hundred and sixty nine performances.
The West End production was closed for a period of three weeks and was repackaged based on the LA production. A few other additions were made as well and those changes worked to perfection. The new Sunset Boulevard had everyone purring over it. It continued to grace the West End stages for a staggering one thousand five hundred and thirty performances.
Sunset Boulevard then had the curtain raised on its Broadway debut on 17th November, 1994. The Broadway version was an instant hit. People from all walks of life bought Sunset Boulevard tickets in thousands to catch this magical play live. Multiple Tony awards as well as other gongs followed to solidify its status among the most famous theatrical productions of recent times.
The epic popularity of the musical paved the way for it to be turned into a tour as well which hit the road for the first time in the year 1996. Not only that, but it has also been produced internationally in countries like Canada, Australia, Germany, Holland, Spain and Sweden. The musical is an example of theatrical brilliance at its stunning best and that has been the case for close to two decades now. It is now back for its latest run so make sure you book your Sunset Boulevard tickets and be a part of a memorable event live.
