Machine Gun Kelly is the stage name of Richard Colson Baker, an American rapper based in Shaker Heights, Ohio. He earned his stage name due to his characteristic rapid lyrical flow, referring to the criminal of the same name. First came to prominence upon issuing four of his earliest mixtapes namely Lace Up, 100 Words and Running, Homecoming and Stamp of Approval, all of which were released between 2006 and 2010. Machine Gun Kelly has established himself as a keen live performer, who is friends with Juicy J of Three 6 Mafia whose song Inhale featured Kelly in early 2011. In the following March he joined his first ever SXSW show held in Austin, where Sean Combs approached him. Since then Kelly has attained significant exposure on the music front. In the same year he was offered a recording contract with Bad Boy Records that is associated with the well-established Interscope. Kelly has appeared in the XV track Finally Home. That year he issued a music video for his track WildBoy which featured the famous rap/hip hop act Waka Flocka Flame, following which he made an appearance alongside the latter on 106 & Park of BET. About this time he suggested through his twitter account that his long anticipated studio offering HalfNaked & Almost Famous was set to be released by March 2012. The 2012 album of Machine Gun Kelly released in March 2012, peaked at number forty-six on US charts, at number ten on US R&B charts and at number nine on US Rap charts.  
 
Machine Gun Kelly was signed to Interscope b y Diddy and Jimmy Iovine. The first single titled WildBoy from his 2012 album was released in September 2011. By January 2012, the track debuted on US Billboard Hot 100 in the ninety-eighth place. His song Invincible was featured in an HTC ReZound commercial, and has also been officially used as the theme song of WrestleMania XXVIII while WWE also played it to bring attention to John Cena in a match against The Rock. In 2012, Kelly appeared on an XXL cover as part of the magazine's yearly 'Top 10 Freshmen List' alongside other rappers such as Roscoe Dash, Iggy Azalea, Danny Brown, Hopsin, French Montana and Mackelmore.
