M83 is a spectacular French electronic band, from Antibes in the Alpes-Maritimes. It plays a mix of synthpop, dream pop and electronic, often combined with the exotic sounds of shoegazem new wave and ambient. It was founded in 2001 and has been active since then, with its music released by record labels such as Mute Records, Naïve Records and Virgin Records. Its members today are Anthony Gonzalez, multi-instrumentalist Jordan Lawlor, vocalist and keyboardist Morgan Kibby, drummer Loic Maurin and Ian Young. It is a band to catch live for fans of electronic music, with M83 tickets in hand.

M83 is an electronic band whose style is heavily influenced by shoegaze, in using soft lyrics over loud instrumental sounds and reverb effects. It began playing in 2001, when it released its first album, a self-titled release.  In 2003, it released its second album, titled Dead Cities, Red Seas & Lost Ghost, to much critical and commercial acclaim. It was followed by a global tour after which the band returned to the studio to record their next album, dubbed Before the Dawn Heals Us. It was released in 2005 and was followed by the band remixing a Bloc Party, which was included in the official Bloc Party remix album.

M83 also went on to remix songs by a number of famous bands, including Protégé Moi by Placebo, Black Cherry by Goldfrapp, Suffer Well by Depeche Mode, Kelly by Van She and Vila Attack by The Bumblebeez.  In 2006, the band explored new music, dabbling in an ambient style, which influenced their next album, Digital Shades Vol. 1, released in 2007. It is the first of a series of planned ambient music albums. In 2008, the band released its fifth album, Saturdays = Youth, recorded with the renowned Ken Thomas, known for his work on such bands as Boys in a Band, The Sugarcubes, Cocteau Twins and Sigur Ros, as well as producer Ewan Pearson and Morgan Kibby of The Romanovs fame.

One of the songs from this album, We Own the Sky, was used by snowboarder Travis Rice ad Redbull in the movie, That's It That's All. The band was also featured on a record with Maps, who remixed one of their songs. The same year, they supported famous band Kings of Leon in their tour of the UK and in 2009, supported famous band The Killers during their US tour. They then toured Italy, France and Germany with Depeche Mode, on the band's Tour of the Universe. In the summer of 2009, they played at the famous Fuji Rock Festival, organized in Japan, followed by a concert in Columbus, Ohio at the Wexner Center.

In 2010, they composed the soundtrack of the popular movie Black Heaven, by Giles Marchand, to critical acclaim.  In 2011, they began work on another album, which was described as 'very, very, very epic', as described in an interview with Spin magazine. The album was titled Hurry Up, We're Dreaming and was a double album whose first single, titled Midnight City, was release in summer 2011. It was followed by a tour of Europe and North America, in promotion of the album with Active Child as the supporting band. The album was ranked in the Top 50 Albums of 2011 by Pitchfork magazine.

In 2012, they were ranked fifth on the Triple J Hottest 100 rankings, for their song Midnight City. The same year, they performed at the famous Montreal festival, the Osheaga Festival. Later on, they performed in Berlin, at the Astra Kulturhaus, to a sold out audience who grabbed M83 tickets to enjoy the show. They have recorded many remixes to date, for such groups as Goldfrapp, Depeche Mode, Telex, Bloc Party, Maps, Van She, Midnight Juggernauts, Placebo, Kids Indestructible, Steve & Rob, White Lies, Daft Punk and Deftones. Their music has been widely used in movies and TV, in Only God Forgives, Made in Chelse, How to Make It in America, BBC's London 2012 Olympics coverage, HBO's 24/7, Red Riding Hood, Stranger Than Fiction, Night Watch, Red Riding, Donkey Punch, Red Bull's Fixed Gear documentary, A Scanner Darkly, Sugar Rush and many more.
