Kathleen started learning music at Cincinnati College Conservatory, and received vocal training from Franklin Bens and Italo Tajo. She made her debut in 1972, at the Festival of Two Worlds in Spoleto, Italy. Her stage debut was in Rossini's play at Michigan Opera Theater in Detroit in 1975, and her first New York City Opera performance was in the very next year, in Mozart's Le nozze di Figaro. In the meantime Kathleen performed and sang at orchestral concerts in New York, Cleveland and Los Angeles. By 1976 she had made a name for herself and had performed in major opera houses.
During these performances, she caught attention of James Levine, who brought her to the Metropolitan Opera in New York in 1978, as the Shepherd in Wagner's play. Kathleen's appearance on PBS broadcast of Metropolitan Opera's 1991 season opening gala earned her an Emmy Award for 'Outstanding Individual Achievement' in a classical United States television program.
She recorded a variety of music and won several accolades. Kathleen stayed with Metropolitan Opera until 1994. Since the time she got separated from Metropolitan, Kathleen has not given any acting performance. However she has stayed in touch with singing and recitations. Despite her disconnection with acting, her characters in plays are still remembered and appreciated. In recitals though, she has maintained an active career. Her Schubert interpretations have earned her much acclaim and recognition. She has also featured songs by Strauss, Faure and Rodrigo in her recitals.
Kathleen Battle has had an equally successful career in music as she did with her repertoire of acting or recitals. She has performed with some of the world's best orchestras. New York Philharmonic, Boston Symphony Orchestra, Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Cleveland Orchestra, Philadelphia Orchestra, Berlin Philharmonic and Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra are a few examples. She has also performed at the festivals of Blossom, the Hollywood Bowl, Ravinia, Tanglewood and many more.
Kathleen's pure and charming soprano voice is a treat for the ears. She also excelled her technical grip which allows her to proficiently sing harder tunes for coloratura roles like Zerbinetta and Rosina. A dedicated performer, Kathleen continues to stay the public favorite. She has extensively toured throughout USA, Canada, Europe and Far East, and has held performances in various music capitals, including New York, Boston, Washington, Chicago, Paris, London, Berlin and Tokyo.
Kathleen has worked and recorded primarily under the banner of Sony Classical. These include several of her remarkable sold out live concert performances. She is renowned for giving her fans a great time during concerts. Her upcoming event will be no different.
Kathleen has an incredible vocal ability to project different emotions, ranging from deep longing to hope and delight. Her art of fusing together different forms of performing aspects and giving them a perfect blend distinguishes her from her contemporaries. This amalgamation of sometimes contradictory elements done elegantly makes the virtuous singing style of Kathleen even more impressive. The vibrant stage presence of this diva coupled with her soulful voice gives the audience the pleasure to listen and enjoy some heartfelt music tunes.
Known as a perfectionist, Kathleen has always produced the best. Lately, she has done diverse projects including the works of composers that are different from her conventional style. Her latest performances also include compositions that are not so much related to the traditional classical music. Among these include works by Vangelis, Georg Gershwin and Stevie Wonder.
