Carlos Vives
Carlos Vives is a Grammy Award and three-time Latin Grammy Award winning singer from Columbia. He is also a composer and actor with more than 20 years performance experience.

Born in August, 1961 in Santa Marta, Columbia, Carlos Vives has received critical acclaim for his music and acting. At the age of twelve, he moved to Bogot? where he acquired a taste for rock. He soon started playing in bars and cafes, but kept his Caribbean roots alive.

While playing music, Carlos Vives at the same time pursued an acting career. He worked in the telenovela (Latin American soap opera) as Gallito Ram?rez. It was a story of a Colombian Caribbean coast boxer who falls in love with an uptight girl.

The uptight girls character was portrayed Carlos first wife, Margarita Rosa de Francisco. Later, he appeared on the Colombian TV show for kids Peque?os Gigantes and starred in couple of other soap operas. These included Tuyo es mi corazon and Loca Pasi?n.

A dynamic and versatile artist, Carlos Vives was offered an acting job in Puerto Rico in 1989. There, he is also remembered for his leading roles in the soaps La Otra and Aventurera. Puerto Rico is also significant for Carlos as it is where he took a break in his music career.

Around this time, he would spend his time between Colombia, Miami and the city of Mayaguez. Vives returned to Colombia in 1991, where he was offered a TV role that changed his life forever.

Carlos Vives was cast in the leading role of a fantasy series called Escalona. It was based in the life of Vallenato composer Rafael Escalona. Vives sang the composer's songs in the series. He then followed up his career in music and started fusing it with rock, pop and other Caribbean Colombian ethnic rhythms.

He composed a kind of Vallenato that proved to be a huge success not only in Colombia but all over Latin countries. Two years later, Vives came up with his Cl?sicos de la Provincia. Introducing Vallenato to the rest of the world, the album became a timeless classic in Colombian and Latin American music.

Following his success with high quality releases La Tierra del Olvido (1995), Tengo Fe (1997), El Amor de mi Tierra (1999), Dejame Entrar (2001) and El Rock de mi Pueblo (2004), Carlos Vives became a strong agent in promoting Vallenato through his albums.

The year 2001 saw him releasing yet another album called Dejame Entrar. The album turned out to be such a big success that it earned Carlos his first Grammy award for Best Traditional Tropical Latin Album.

Some of Carlos Vives songs that became super hits were Matilde Linda, La Hamaca Grande, La Gota Fria, Alicia Adorada, Pa Mayte, La Tierra Del Olvido, Tu Amor Eterno, Fruta Fresca, Dejame Entrar, Luna Nueva, Carito, Papadio, and Decimas del parecido.

Carlos Vives has a spectacular array of albums on his credit. To-date he has released 11 albums and 2 compilations. Carlos issued Por Fuera y Por Dentro in 1986, No Podr?s Escapar de M? in 1987, Al Centro de la Ciudad in 1989, Escalona:

Un Canto a la Vida in 1991, Escalona: Vol. 2 in 1992, Cl?sicos de la Provincia in 1993, La Tierra del Olvido in 1995, Tengo Fe in 1997, El Amor de Mi Tierra in 1999, Dejame Entrar in 2001, and El Rock de Mi Pueblo in 2004.

His compilations include 20 De Colecci?n and Canta Los Clasicos Del Vallenato, released in 1994 and 2002 respectively.
