Billy Davis has been on the music scene since the second half of 1960's. He first began to perform aged only eleven while growing up in St. Louis. He created his own band and named it The Emeralds which over the next few years became the Saint Gospel Singers. Together with his group Billy began to perform in and around the region during summers which gave him invaluable experience of performing in front of a live audience. After spending half a decade with the band, he went on become a member of The Versatiles. Other team members of the group included the likes of Lamonte McLemore, Florence LaRue, Ron Townson and of course his future to be wife Marilyn McCoo.
It took them just one song to evolve into The 5th Dimension and that is when Billy Davis and the rest of the star cast turned into superstars. The band joined signed up with Johnny Rivers led Soul City Music and went on to record a series of major hits. For the most part of the 1960's and the 1970's The 5th Dimension, released mega hits like Champagne Soul, One Less Bell to Answer, Sweet Blindness, Wedding Bell Blues, The Worst That Could Happen, Up Up and Away and Stoned Soul Picnic among countless others to become household names. That list of sensational releases included one album that typified everything their music stood for. The album was none other than the Aquarius/Let The Sunshine In. The recording became one of the most legendary releases of that era and is still regarded by many among the list of hits that went on to impact the music landscape forever.
