Albita Rodríguez was born in Havana, Cuba in 1962 from parents who were well-known Cuban folk-music singers. She was exposed to the world of music from her very childhood and she gained recognition as a teenager singer. She released her first album Habrá Música Guajira (There Will be Guajira Music) in 1988 and Cantare in 1992. Her music back then was traditional Cuban country music backed by guitars and percussion. With these albums, she identified her music as a mixture of African and European music styles. In 1992, she moved to Columbia and performed in concerts of Latin America. She produced several hits including Hoy No Voy A Trabajar (Today I'm Not Going to Work).

Albita moved to Miami, United States in 1993 which opened a whole new dimension of music to her. She started her career from restaurant Centro Vasco where she was appreciated by musicians such as Madonna and Gloria Estefan who came to visit. She became an instant success releasing her first single Qué Manera de Quererte (What a Way of Loving You) and her album No Se Parece a Nada (Like Nothing Else) in 1995 which was commercially successful. Her music introduced Merengue, Salsa and other popular Latin rhythms.

Albita launched her CD Albita LLegó under her own label "Angel's Dawn Records" and won two Grammys in the category of Best Contemporary Tropical Album. Albita has performed at four Presidential functions and she was the Queen of Carnival Calle Ocho in 2005, one of the largest Latino Festivals in the United States attended by more than one million people each year.
