The most recent All-Star game 2007 was hosted at AT&T Park in San Francisco, California. The AT&T Park is a home of the San Francisco Giants. The AL won this game, and secured home field advantage in the 2007 World Series. The pennant winner of the league winning the All-Star Game has been awarded home field advantage for the forthcoming World Series since 1993.

The announcement of Yankee Stadium as the site of the game was made by MLB Commissioner Bud Selig and New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg. It is the fourth game held at the Stadium, the eighth hosted in New York City and the first time since 1977 that the Yankees or any other New York team is playing host to this game.
