Born on the 28th of April, 1950, in New York, his full name is as William Anthony Col?n, and is Puerto Rican. During his early childhood days, Willie Colon started playing the trumpet. Later, due to his greatest inspirations, Mon Rivera and Barry Rogers, Willie switched to trombone.
Most of his summers were spent at his maternal grandmothers farm, which was located in Puerto Ricos region, known as Manat?. That is where Willie received the knowledge of obedience and persistence to succeed on his own, along with gaining love and devotion for Puerto Rico which later helped him in shaping his political views and he turned out to be a strong supporter of Puerto Rican independence and Latin American political unity.
