The Stylistics has earned a lot of critical acclaim for their songs and live shows. The Stylistics was formed when the members of soul bands, the Monarchs and Percussions came together after the breakup of their respective groups. James Smith, Airrion Love and Thompkins came from the Monarchs, whereas Herbie Murell and James Dunn belonged to the Percussions. The Stylistics recorded their first single You're A Big Girl Now in 1970. Co-written by Robert Douglas and Marty Byrant, the track earned a lot of fame and earned them a lot of media attention. Not only this, the song even helped the band grab the attention of Avco Records which signed the group and helped its single climb to the seventh spot in early 1971.
Once the group signed with Avco, they began working with the talented songwriter/producer Thom Bell, who formerly worked with the Delfonics. Along with the lyricist Linda Creed, Bell produced several top singles that earned the band a lot of popularity. Almost every single that Thomas Bell produced for this band became a top ten R&B track and their singles dominated the music charts.
After the release of the single, You Make Me Feel Brand New, The Stylistics parted ways with Thomas Bell and started working with Van McCoy. With McCoy, the band started producing less complex and softer tracks that brought them even more popularity. In 1976 the band signed with H&L Records. This move resulted in a decline in band's popularity in the US though they continued to dominate the European music scene. Singles like “Sing Baby Sing”, “Na Na Is the Saddest Word”, “Can't Help Falling in Love” and “Can't Give you Anything” were the top five tracks in Europe. By the late 1980s, Dunn and Smith both left the band but the rest of the band members continued to produce incredible music and entertained the fans with their live concerts.
The Stylistics is currently on the road as part of their 2014 US Tour. Scheduled to perform in Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Oakland, Cleveland, Hartford as well as in United Kingdom, each of their upcoming events is expected to be a spectacular one. With many die-hard fans all over the world, The Stylistics tickets will be hard to get your hands on. So book the tickets now and have a great time.
