It first started in 1933 as a show between movie screenings, only a year after the opening of the Music Hall in 1932. The Living Nativity and The Parade of the Wooden Soldiers were the only acts then. In 1979, more acts were added and the Christmas show was made of 90 minutes. Show starts off with a 3-D movie when Santa Claus flies from North Pole to the New York City in his famous magical sleigh. When he arrives, audience sees him flying around some of the landmarks of the New York City. The sites such as Empire State Building and Statue of Liberty etc. are shown. Santa flies off each of this trademark on his way for his yearly visit to the Radio City Music Hall. On reaching the Music Hall the movie comes to an end and the real show begins. Santa boards the stage as a host. The first performance by Santa being a host is his introduction of not-to-miss Rockettes to the audience. This dance group performs their latest I See Christmas Everywhere.
After that, it is turn for an act from The Nutcracker called Every Little Girl's Dream. The scene is about a little girl's dream of unwrapping her presents at the Christmas Day. The performance involves her dance with a six foot long teddy bear and various rabbits that she imagines are inside the unopened presents. Next up is The Parade of the Wooden Soldiers performed by Rockettes. The costumes worn by the toy soldiers in the show are exactly the same as that of 1933's performance.
The next dance number starts when Santa reads a letter sent by one of the children who remember to send him a Christmas mail every year. A little girl asks Santa how he manages to give everyone so many presents right at their home in just one night. Santa explains that he is able to deliver all those presents with the help of a legion of Santa Clauses. As he ends the sentence, some fifty of the Santa Clauses come on the stage to dance. The Radio City Christmas Spectacular also treats the audiences with Dance of the Snowflakes, a song in the celebration of the wonders and magic of the New York's snowy Christmas season. The performers' song is about the holiday shopping along Fifth Avenue and the holiday season in general. The Fifth Avenue store window is used in the scene, which is a recreation for the show, with beautiful dancing ice-skaters in snow-flakes.
The two acts following are hilarious visits to Santa's workshop and his toy distribution process, where we meet Mrs. Claus and the team of Santa's elves. Show's ending act is Living Nativity filled with use of some special effects presenting the Christ's Birth. This act is also known as One Solitary Life.
