Georgia State Panthers is the name given to the Georgia State University's athletic teams. It is the second largest university in the state and was established back in 1913. The athletic department of the Georgia State University comprises of 17 varsity teams. These teams are associated with the highest level of athletics- NCAA Division 1. Women's volleyball and football teams are a recent addition to the State Panthers which is also a part of the Colonial Athletic Association. The newly formed football team of Georgia State Panthers has played superb games in the last two years. The home games take place at the State owned stadium known as Georgia Dome, which is located in the Downtown Atlanta. It has a seating capacity of more than 28000 spectators and hosted some of the Olympic Games in mid nineties. The team plays under the coaching of Bill Curry. Curry is a former football player and an experienced coach, who has been assisting several football teams since 1974, including Green Bay Packers, Georgia Tech and Alabama Crimson Tide football teams.
 
The basketball team is coached by Ron Hunter whose prior experience will help the team polish its game. In early 2000, the team was at its peak and won several championships one after the other. The home arena for the basketball games is GSU Sports Arena, and it's equipped with the latest facilities. Georgia State Panthers baseball team has been playing since the fifties. It plays at an arena called GSU Sports Complex, which has a limited seating capacity of almost 1100. The head coach Grey Frady is associated with the team since 5 years and a notable improvement in the team's winning percentage has been recorded.
