World Extreme Cagefighting
World Extreme Cagefighting (WEC) holds a blend of old school wrestling along with a bit of Martial Arts, and this is what makes it different from its sister promotion Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC).
UFC is much bigger and much older promotion as compared to WEC, however the rules of the two are same just like its owner and producer, which is Zuffa. The only other difference it has is that of the octagonal steel cages in which the matches are held.
World Extreme Cagefighting was aired for the first time in 2001 and it was started by Reed Harris and Scott Adams. HDNet broadcasted World Extreme Cagefighting before Zuffa bought it.
The ownership of the WEC changed in 2006 when it was bought by the owner of UFC Zuffa from Harris and Adams. Although the ownership and the production team was same of both the promotion but still WEC is treated as a separate promotion just like it was before.
After handing over the ownership to Zuffa, Harris and Adams joined in the New WEC as its co general managers.
The change of ownership brought in several changes in the promotion as well. One of the most significant change was of the cage that was used before was pentagonal cage, but it was replaced with similar kind of octagonal cage that is used in UFC.
In addition to that WEC turned its focus mainly on lightweight championship ditching all of its heavy weight and super heavy weight championships.
Before Zuffa bought WEC, most of its events were held in Lemoore, California, but since 2006 most of its events are being held in Las Vegas.
The network on which WEC has been broadcasted since 2006 is Versus, while in Canada The Sports Network broadcasts it.
After the change of its ownership WEC was aired for the first time on Versus live on June 3, 2007 from Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas.
World Extreme Cagefighting is devoted to providing its fans with unique and innovative kind of fighting action, which would make them keep asking for more.
When it comes to Mixed Martial Arts action, WEC holds a sound repute. After its deal with VERSUS, it broadcasts three fights live along with numerous highlights of the matches.
With WEC being broadcasted that much on VERSUS, it is sure to attract the attention and interest of hundreds of more fans, with its fast paced, adrenaline filed action. WEC is always on the look for the new talent to put the talents and experience of the older ones to the test.
In order to cope with the growing needs of the sports, WEC is committed to encourage the talent, who are capable of providing the fans with the kind of action they would want to see time and time again.
As a fighter the whole career is driven on his talent and as soon as he shows his signs of worthiness for a shot at the champion, he will be provided with this opportunity.
