The Stetson University is situated in the region of Central Florida and is one of the top institutions in the country. It is widely thought to be the first ever university in Florida which was founded in 1883. Henry Addison DeLand was the founder of the university but in 1886 a terrible freeze hit the country and DeLand was very heavily affected by it. He lost a lot of money because of the terrible weather so he started looking for new investors and that is where John B. Stetson stepped in. John had a hat manufacturing business and he was made in chairman of the Board of Trustees in 1889. The University was then named in his honor and its athletics teams were named the Stetson Hatters.
 
The term Stetson Hatters was officially used in 1901 when the University's football team played its first game but that is not the only team that the name is reserved for. The university has a lot of athletics teams and every sport that falls under that umbrella is called the Stetson Hatters. Stetson is a proud member of the NCAA, National Collegiate Athletic Association. The university has both women and men's teams for various sports that take part in the Atlantic Sun Conference's Division I. Some of the sports are played by both men and women whereas some other sports that are played by either of the two.
 
The Stetson Hatters athletics division has been very successful with both men's and women's team winning numerous championships. Baseball is one of the most successful sports played by the university. Almost every game is a sell-out by fans who buy the Stetson Hatters tickets to follow their favorite team.  They first made their debut in 1970 and have gone on to win a staggering seven Atlantic Sun Conference titles and have gone to the NCAA Regionals an even more impressive sixteen times.
 
The football team of the Stetson Hatters played in the championships from 1901 to 1956 where they won more than one hundred games. The University started thinking about giving its football fans a team they could be proud of in 2010. The study for the feasibility was completed and it was announced in 2011 that the Stetson Hatters football side will be revived again and they will be playing in the Pioneer Football League from the 2013 season. One of the most famous names in college Football Roger A. Hughes was named as the coach of the team so that no stone is left unturned to make sure the team comes back with a bang.
 
The Stetson Hatters enjoy some of the most stunning facilities on offer anywhere in Universities around the country. They have their own multi-purpose arena called The J. Ollie Edmunds Center that can host up to four thousand spectators at a time. Then there is the Mandy Stoll Tennis Center which is used for excellence in tennis. They have their own soccer field as well as their own baseball stadium the Melching Field at Conrad Park. The football side will make its way back to the Spec Martin Stadium which also acted as the university's football team's home till 1956.
 
The Stetson Hatters are just as unique as the University itself. They share the same traits which are based on providing excellence in everything while moving on with the times to be the best at everything.
