The minor league ice hockey powerhouse, the South Carolina Stingrays are ready to hit the ground running. They were formed around two decades ago and in that time they have captured some of the biggest titles in the game to solidify their status as a special side. That trend looks well on course to continue in foreseeable future. Watch some of the most promising players in the league take to the rink by buying South Carolina Stingrays tickets.
The South Carolina Stingrays were formed in 1993 as an expansion member of the East Coast Hockey League. Ex player Joseph Scanlon took over the duties of the CEO and President during those early days. Under the guidance of coach Rick Waive, the South Carolina Stingrays went into their inaugural season with high expectations. They went all the way to the playoffs where they lost to Hampton Roads in the first round. The season was full of highs which gave the team and the management a lot of encouragement. Sylvain Fleury made it to the list of top ten skaters by amassing ninety five points in just sixty eight games. He also scored five goals in a game which was the most in the league that season. The Stingrays also compiled a six games winning sequence during which they scored forty three goals and conceded only thirteen. One of the biggest highs of the season came from the fans that averaged over nine thousand per game in attendance, the most in the league that season.
In the next season the South Carolina Stingrays went to the top of their division. They also won eighteen games on the bounce at home, a record that has not been bettered by any team since. The second name of the best goaltender list that season was Stingray's Steve Shields. Once again they led the table in attendance for the season. Owing in large part to an eight game winning run away from home, they made it to the third spot in the division. The next season turned out to be one of the most amazing in their history. The Stingrays not only won the ECHL crown but also got laid their hands on the prestigious Brabham Cup. Those two triumphs earned them the distinction of being the first team from the ECHL to win a regular season and post season championships.
In the 1997-1998 campaign they won twelve straight home games to set a league record to capture top spot in the division. They went on to capture another league title in the year 2001. The next few seasons did not go according to the script but that all changed in 2009 when they won the conference title and the Kelly Cup.
The South Carolina Stingrays have made it to the playoffs every season bar one. The success and the standards they have set along the way sets them apart from most teams. They are ready to once again make it to the top so grab your South Carolina Stingrays tickets and play your part in the team's success.
